Sure, most sequels stink, but what movie really needs a sequel?
Most people will read this and think, "What the F@#*!!", but I will say it anyway.
"Unbreakable" by M. Knight Shyamalan.
The story was good. I liked it better after comparing elements of the story against "The Rules" M. Knight went through on "The Sixth Sense" dvd, which explained his use of color. Those rules apply to "Unbreakable" but in a different manner, and M. Knight did not expound on how those rules were implemented exactly. Part of the fun was trying to figure it out for myself.
Sam L. Jackson and Bruce Willis agreed that the story wasn't complete and needed another few hours to bring things to closure.
What's the most obsessive-compulsive thing you do in a normal day?
Submitted by Nikki.
I didn't even have to think about this. I have one too many blogs and am an email junkie. So thorough the day while I'm working I am checking email accounts, replying to blog responses, and the like. It is just a part of my routine, and it is totally acceptable to me.
Okay, we hate to ask, but... over the roll or under the roll?
OVER! Any other way is just wrong.
Would you rather go back in time or visit the future?
Submitted by Auds.
Definitely back in time.
There are some mistakes I would like to undo.
What were your New Year's resolutions for 2006? How did you do?
I had four main resolutions.
1. To continue to lose weight - I am still losing fat but am also gaining muscle. So far I am down from 296 to 225. Once my knees are healed I plan on running more 5k races. Cardio sparked the fat burn, and I miss it sorely.
2. To save more money - I need to increase my emergency cash fund, but I maxed out my 401k and started a Roth IRA. Thankfully, the market gave me a 10% gain which turned out to be quite a large sum.
3. To meet more people - This year was surprising as I met and hung out with more people than I have in the past few years.
4. To continue self reflection and change - This was the most powerful resolution as it requires me to look deep at my attitudes and ideals that compose the core of who I am and determine whether those are traits that need to be changed or kept.
"There is no finer sensation in life than that which comes with victory over one's self. It feels good to go fronting into a hard wind, winning against its power; but it feels a thousand times better to go forward to a goal of inward achievement, brushing aside all your internal enemies as you advance." - Vash Young
What were your top 5 TV shows of 2006?
This is a hard question since I record so many shows, but I will give it a try.
Battlestar Galactica - I did not start watching it until this year after a friend suggested the show to me. After renting seasons 1 and 2 from Netflix and then buying season 2.5 from iTunes, I was hooked.
Heroes - I never expected it to be that good but what a surprise.
The Wire - A consistently good show, but this season finds it back at the top of its game.
Grey's Anatomy - Excellent ensemble cast. Great writing.
Weeds - Another suggestion from someone that I am glad I looked into.
I know I am forgetting some show that should be on the list.
What are your top 5 books of 2006?
I am always reading something for pleasure or improvement, but these books are foremost in my mind at the moment.
1. "Morningstar Guide to Mutual Funds: Five-Star Strategies for Success" by C. Benz
2. "You: On a Diet" by Roizen and Oz
3. "A Feast for Crows" by George R.R. Martin
4. "Running with Scissors" by A. Burroughs
5. "Dry" by A. Burroughs
Where do you do your online shopping?
Mostly amazon.com and at times Wilsons Leather but only because I get a 15% discount.
What are your top 5 movies/DVDs of 2006?
I see about one movie per weekend sometimes more and find it hard at times to pick just a handful of good ones.
This year my top 5 picks in no particular order are:
- The Illusionist
- The Prestige
- Little Miss Sunshine
- The Departed
- Casino Royale
Honorable Mentions Go To:
- Apocalypto
- Hard Candy
- The Break-Up
- The Devil Wears Prada
- Borat
You didn't ask but the worst flicks were:
- The Fountain (and I really tried to like it because I enjoy trying to piece together intertwining storylines but the ending of this film...gawd)
- Nacho Libre (again I tried to like it)
- Miami Vice (two and a half hour yawn-fest)
- Idlewild (well I did like some of the music)
- Lady in the Water (quite unfortunate because just like The Village I enjoyed the first half of the movie immensely. The payoff for me just did not happen)
What books did you love as a child?
Submitted by hearts.
I loved "The Outsiders" by S.E. Hinton, but I also need to include all of the "Choose Your Own Adventure" books ever written. Those books are what got me hooked on reading for enjoyment.
I also read Judy Bloom in the fifth grade after getting several of her books as a gift. Yep, I said it. I read her even though she's more of a "girl's author". "Blubber", "Are You There God? It's Me Margaret", and "Then Again, Maybe I Won't" were my favorites. Those three books were part of a box set of four, but I cannot remember the fourth book's title.
