What were your New Year's resolutions for 2006? How did you do?
I had four main resolutions.
1. To continue to lose weight - I am still losing fat but am also gaining muscle. So far I am down from 296 to 225. Once my knees are healed I plan on running more 5k races. Cardio sparked the fat burn, and I miss it sorely.
2. To save more money - I need to increase my emergency cash fund, but I maxed out my 401k and started a Roth IRA. Thankfully, the market gave me a 10% gain which turned out to be quite a large sum.
3. To meet more people - This year was surprising as I met and hung out with more people than I have in the past few years.
4. To continue self reflection and change - This was the most powerful resolution as it requires me to look deep at my attitudes and ideals that compose the core of who I am and determine whether those are traits that need to be changed or kept.
"There is no finer sensation in life than that which comes with victory over one's self. It feels good to go fronting into a hard wind, winning against its power; but it feels a thousand times better to go forward to a goal of inward achievement, brushing aside all your internal enemies as you advance." - Vash Young
What were your top 5 TV shows of 2006?
This is a hard question since I record so many shows, but I will give it a try.
Battlestar Galactica - I did not start watching it until this year after a friend suggested the show to me. After renting seasons 1 and 2 from Netflix and then buying season 2.5 from iTunes, I was hooked.
Heroes - I never expected it to be that good but what a surprise.
The Wire - A consistently good show, but this season finds it back at the top of its game.
Grey's Anatomy - Excellent ensemble cast. Great writing.
Weeds - Another suggestion from someone that I am glad I looked into.
I know I am forgetting some show that should be on the list.
One of those songs was "Morris Brown" - a track heavily laden with this brassy marching band sound that accompanies Outcast as they trip off this mellowed out groove. It's a cool mix that works so Inject it, and Enjoy.
I went bowling with friends tonight and had such a great time. My friends are wonderful, and I am thankful to have met them. Tonight reinforced that.
In the past, I took people for granted, turning them away at the drop of a hat, but thankfully the old adage is true, "With age comes wisdom". Recently, during a conversation with my buddy Ben, I said that "when the universe gives you friends like these you do not walk away". Trust me when I say I dont plan on it.
At one point in the evening, we all took our cell phones and started taking snapshots and recording video. My video did not get saved, but my pictures did.
This pic was taken by Sami who insisted that I smile since I normally do not in any photos I take. She was right. It does add a little somethin' to the picture. :)

This has got to be the funniest SNL Digital Short since The Chronicles of Narnia. Watched it on SNL when it aired Saturday night and have been laughing at it ever since.
That is Justin Timberlake as one of the 80s singers in case you did not recognize.
See it now before NBC makes YouTube pull it off their servers.
Also, this is uncensored so dont listen near fragile ears and or in workplaces.
What are your top 5 books of 2006?
I am always reading something for pleasure or improvement, but these books are foremost in my mind at the moment.
1. "Morningstar Guide to Mutual Funds: Five-Star Strategies for Success" by C. Benz
2. "You: On a Diet" by Roizen and Oz
3. "A Feast for Crows" by George R.R. Martin
4. "Running with Scissors" by A. Burroughs
5. "Dry" by A. Burroughs
How I Do is a track featuring Shawn Stockton of Boyz II Men. It has a looped sampled track with a touch of hip hop, and the mix sounds sweet - mellow enough with just enough of an edge to get my attention.
I had my day all planned out as soon as I woke up. Fix two scambled eggs and oatmeal for breakfast then hit the gym for two hours. Go home. Clean up. Go to see The Pursuit of Happyness. Afterwards, bowl a few games before reseaching facts for my network design paper.
Things did not go totally as planned, but I did not care.
I spent two hours at the gym - an hour of chest and abs and then cardio. Saw Wil Smith's fantastic performance in The Pursuit of Happyness, which I highly recommend, and then texted my friend Ben to see if he wanted to hit A Thousand Needles before I started studying. That lead to an invitation to an excellent dinner with good friends.
I stayed there for an hour and a half or so then came home to watch the two hour Survivor finale and am now watching the finale of Sleeper Cell. If you have never seen season one or two of this show, you have no idea of how great it is. Check it out.
Needless to say, it is 11:30. I have to get up at 5am to hit the gym so there will be no class work done tonight other than the mandatory posts to the classroom that I just finished.
My last online act of the evening will be posting tonight's audio injection and then it's off to bed.
